How to Copy to Multiple Layouts

Copying your app project to multiple layouts is easy. With a few steps, you'll be able to copy your app design from iOS to Android, or from phone to tablet. Here's how to do it.

1. Adjust the settings of your project to include multiple layouts.

a. Click on your project from your account dashboard.

b. Hover over your project’s icon and click the settings gear in the upper right hand corner.

c. In your project’s settings under Layouts, you can add or remove additional device layouts to your project. You'll see your existing layouts above the line. Below the line in the blank box dropdown is where you will select which operating system, device size, and display type to add.

Once you have selected something for each dropdown, click the green + button to add it to your project. Make sure to click “Save” when you are finished.

2. Build your project pages on one device layout. Keep in mind that because device layout sizes differ, you may have to adjust your design/sizing of content when copying over to other layouts.

a. On your project build page, you will see the device layout drop down. This is where you can navigate between device layouts, previewing all of your project screens at once.

3. Begin copying your project to other device layouts.

a. Start with copying all of your Master Pages.

b. Select a master page and choose “Edit.”

Note: You can see all keyboard shortcuts by selecting "Help" in the top right of your dashboard, then "Keyboard Shortcuts." Our documentation assumes you're using a Mac - if you're on Windows, simply use "Ctrl" instead of "Command" for keyboard shortcuts.

In the studio, press "Command + A" to select everything on the page. Or, in your layers panel, select all of the layers by holding shift. Then press "Command + C" to copy everything selected.

d. Next, from the top tool bar in the studio, select the device layout from the dropdown that you would like to copy your page content to. The page you are currently on will be highlighted in blue.

e. On the new device layout (which should be a blank screen) press "Command + V" to paste all of the content you just copied. If the content needs to be adjusted to fit, do so.

f. Continue to move through each device layout from the dropdown and paste the content.

g. When finished with Master Pages, move to your app content screens.

e. Copy each content screen over to every device layout desired, following steps b - f above.

4. Check to make sure all master pages and hot spots are set.

a. When you are finished copying your project to all device layouts, review every page in your project, including your Master Pages.

b. Look at your Page Information panel to make sure that every page on every device is set to the correct Master Page.

c. Hotspot destinations should copy over when you are copying finished content, but check all Hotspots to make sure they are set correctly. You can do this by selecting a Hotspot and viewing the Action Panel.

5. Preview your project using the App Press Now app. If your project is using both iOS and Android layouts, you'll need to test with both an Apple and Android device.

a. If you receive a “Missing layout error” on any page when previewing on either device, go to your project and make sure that every page on every device type has content on it. A “Missing layout error” means there is no content on the page you are trying to view.

b. If it seems as though a Hotspot is not working, review the Hotspot on every device layout, and make sure it is set to transition to the correct page.

NOTE: If you make changes to a Hotspot or a Master Page on any device layout, you MUST make that same change on every device layout.
